Bau und Fertigstellung des Milliardenprojekts

Der Aussichtsturm Dubai Creek Tower oder kurz „The Tower“, wird in einem völlig neuen Stadtteil erbaut. Der neue Stadtteil wird von dem Immobilienunternehmen Emaar Properties entwickelt. In der Umgebung sollen Wohnungen für 470.000 Menschen entstehen. Außerdem soll der Turm das Herzstück des Dubai Creek Harbour werden. Ebenso wie der Burj Khalifa das Herzstück von Downtown Dubai ist.

Die Vorbereitungsarbeiten begannen bereits im Oktober 2016. Rund 170.000 Kubikmeter Erdreich wurden freigelegt, um Platz für die Gründung des Turms zu schaffen. Nachdem 145 Pfähle gelegt und in 75 m Tiefe in den Boden eingebracht worden waren, wurden 210.000 Tonnen Beton gegossen, um das Fundament zu bilden. Anschließend wurden die Gründungsarbeiten dann im Mai 2017 abgeschlossen. Jedoch wird der Baufortschritt um einiges schneller sein als bei einem gewöhnlichen Hochhaus. Geschätzte Kosten für den Bau der gigantischen Nadel sind eine Milliarde US-Dollar.

Dabei befindet sich die Hälfte einer solchen Plattform außerhalb der Fassade des Turms. Не ясно, какой высоты будет здание. Русская Википедия называет цифру 928 метров, англоязычная — «как минимум» 828 метров, официальные данные застройщика Emaar Properties — «828+» метров. Независимые источники говорят о потенциальной высоте в 1 километр и выше — вплоть до 1300 метров. Что представляется невероятным. Так или иначе, окончательная высота здания до сих пор не известна. По информации, которую можно найти в сети, в проекте заложены возможности для того, чтобы увеличить высоту сооружения.

Основание башни содержит 50000 кубических метров бетона, что весит около 120000 тонн, а это вес CN Tower в Канаде.

При закладке фундамента башни было использовано 16000 тонн стального арматуры, что более чем в два раза превышает вес Эйфелевой башни. Стальные сваи в основании здания уходят на глубину в 72 метра.

Стальные тросы, которые будут использоваться в конструкции здания — самые длинные из всех, что когда-либо применялись в строительстве.

Dubai Creek Harbour has been designed as a place where people can work, live and play in harmony with nature.

CallisonRTKL’s masterplan is for a ‘walkable, accessible and sustainable city of the future’ with over 7.3 million square metres of residential space and 3.2 million square metres of retail, hotel, office, cultural and community space.

This high density urban district will be capable of accommodating over 200,000 residents, and a 450,000 living and working population.

The master plan incorporates a permeable accessibility network composed of streets, squares, parks and plazas, allowing people a range of choices in moving from place to place within the community.

Aware that the construction of such a huge district will necessarily be done in phases, the master planners have designed a series of distinct, self-contained but still connected neighbourhoods each of which can be built as a single phase of the development. The first of these are The Island District, Creek Beach and Dubai Square. 

When it is completed Dubai Creek Harbour will be one of the largest developments in Dubai as well as the largest ‘walkable’ community. There will be a number of civic and cultural attractions, including a 30-hectare central park and a new waterfront development on Dubai Creek.

Sustainable drainage, green roofs and multimodal transport, including rental bicycles and an on-site bus and tram network, will help ensure the environmental sustainability of the project, its responsiveness to Dubai’s culture and climate and its adaptability for decades to come.

The iconic structure combines modern, sustainable design with the rich culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates. The building’s numerous observation decks are part of an elongated, oval-shaped bud at the top of the tower. The slender stem serves as the spine of the structure and the cables linking the building to the ground are reminiscent of the delicate ribbing of the lily’s leaves. The structure also provides a beacon of light at night, with lighting that will emphasize the flower-bud design of the building.Calatrava designed the tower with a large focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. The tower will use a highly-efficient cooling system and the water collected from this system will clean the structure’s façade. Elegant landscaping and vegetation will encourage solar protection. An integrated shading system and wing doors will also contribute to energy efficiency. The structure will include ten observation decks, including The Pinnacle Room, which offers unprecedented, 360 degree views of the city and beyond. Among the various decks are two VIP observation garden decks, made to recreate the splendor of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The building will also include numerous balconies that rotate outside the façade of the tower. There will be a café on one of the three public observation decks and numerous spaces throughout the building can be used for events. The tower’s ground-level Central Plaza will serve as a bustling neighborhood center with world-class retail, a museum, educational facilities, and an indoor auditorium. The tower is located in the center of Dubai Creek Harbour, a six square-kilometer world-class development located on Dubai Creek. Dubai Creek has long been Dubai’s center of history and culture and is in close proximity to the Ras Al Khor National Wildlife Sanctuary.

Architecture and Design

Santiago Calatrava, one of the most renowned architectures worldwide and the man executed the tower’s design said that the design’s inspiration came from the shape of the Lily desert flower. Essentially, Dubai Creek Tower resembles a flower’s thin stem.

Dubai Creek Tower also has a very striking feature incorporated in its design which is the cable arrays; these arrays do not only add to the outstanding beauty of the tower through their shape which resembles the ribbing of the lily’s leaves, but they will also connect the tower’s structure to anchor points on both sides of the tower to help support and stabilize the 1,000+ meters building.

At the peak of the tower, there will be an oval-shaped structure which resembles the lily flower’s bud. This structure will comprise multiple floors in itself that will mostly serve as spectacular 360-degree observation decks; the bud-shaped top will also act as a beacon that will emit radiant light during the night.

The tower’s design also incorporates the UAE’s culture and history in it as it represents a minaret. The minaret is a prominent architectural symbol in Islam which is considered an integral component of the mosques’ design.

In addition to the above, the interior design of Dubai Creek Tower is heavily inspired by the mythical Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the wonders of the old world.

The Tower’s Location

Launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, in October 2016, Dubai Creek Tower is set for completion in 2020.

The world’s future tallest building is located 8 kilometers away from its predecessor, the 823-meter high Burj Khalifa tower; it will be situated at the heart of the eponymous waterfront area of Dubai Creek harbor. Thus, Dubai Creek Tower will be located within a close distance from Ras El Khour National Wild Life Sanctuary, for which it will offer a mesmerizing view for the visitors.

The tower’s location adds to the luxurious state of the harbor, which spans around 6 square kilometers of land. Dubai Creek Harbor is located 15 minutes away from Dubai Downtown; it will comprise multiple high-end attractions that will be the firsts of their kinds.

Such destinations include Dubai Square, an ultra-modern retail district that has been revealed recently which will be developed by Emaar Properties and Dubai Holding; it will be the first retail destination to combine online and offline shopping experiences through enabling the customers to choose.

The creek will also house luxurious world-class tourism and entertainment attractions like Meraas’s Al Seef which will sprawl 1.8 kilometers along the creek and high-end residential options.

Fierce competition

The specific height of Dubai Creek Tower has not been officially announced yet. However, it – the height – has undergone multiple extensions and modifications over the past two years ever since the tower’s launch. So far, it is known to exceed 1,000 meters at least and it might reach up to 1,300 meters according to some reports.

Dubai Creek Tower is not the only tower in the GCC region to seek overcoming the 1 kilometer height barrier; there is a feverish competition in the Arabian Peninsula to house the next tallest structure.

Most notable example is Jeddah Tower (also known as the Kingdom Tower). An under-development building in the northern part of the eponymous lively city of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah Tower a planned height of 1,008 meters with its completion date set to be within 2019.

Also, there is another 1 kilometer-high tower in Madinat Al Hareer, the promising futuristic city which Kuwait now develops. The tower, known as Burj Mubarak, will have the exact height of 1,001 meters. The very specific height of the tower is said to be a tribute to 1,001 Arabian Nights.
